Nick Franks was trained as a physicist and did his PhD with Maurice Wilkins at King's College, London. Bill Wisden was trained as a zoologist and did his PhD with Steve Hunt in Cambridge. They combined their laboratories in 2012 in the Department of Life Sciences at Imperial College to work together on mechanisms of sleep and anaesthesia.
